The Tati Bag
A genuine leather handbag in a brand-new signature silhouette– an ode to French director and visual comedian, Jacques Tati. Available in black, red, and brown.
The Tati Bag
An ode to French director and visual comedian, Jacques Tati.
A high quality leather handbag designed with keen attention to detail. Its geometric form is complemented with smooth curves and rounded edges. It features an original leather strap closure rather than a zipper or button. When in use, the closure piece forms a smile or frown shape; a small nod to its dramatic influence. We see this version of the Tati Bag as a baseline–it’s both quiet and loud, a versatile accessory that can be dressed up and down. Easily customizable to fit every person and personality.

Behind The Project
Making The Tati Bag
Probably our most fun design process and photoshoot to date, inspired by our favorite comedians. This whodunnit mystery lookbook features comedians Emily Bonani, Jean-Luc Lukunku, Grace Reiter, Kitty Reynolds, Mary Shalaby, and Pooja Tripathi. With inspiration and guidance from Jacques Tati.

Jacques Tati

Jacques Tati was a French filmmaker, actor, and master of visual comedy. He turned everyday life into a playful, whimsical adventure. He’s best known for creating Monsieur Hulot, a character who stumbles through the modern world in Tati's films– Mon Oncle (1958) and Playtime (1967) are a couple of our favorites. Tati had an incredible eye for detail, using minimal dialogue and clever sound design to craft his humor. We see Tati as an inspiration for all that we do at the studio– it felt fitting to name our first signature silhouette after him.
The Tati Bag Silhouette
An exploration of an original silhouette developed by Nik Bentel Studio, inspired by French director and visual comedian, Jacques Tati. The silhouette is a direct reference to our stunning visual identity created by Little Troop. The form comes from the “i” in “NiK”– the loop handle hugs the tittle “i,” while the bag body follows the strong contours of the letter’s vertical lines.

The M*rder
We invited six of NYC’s most hilarious comedians to model for The Tati Bag photo campaign but something unexpected happened on the shoot day– Nik was found de*d and The Tati Bags went missing! Unsure of what to do, held all of the models accountable and kept them in the studio until someone admitted to the crime... But whodunnit? And what do we do now without our principal designer?
